Views in Serengeti varies with weather, which range between two main seasons- the green season and the dry season. Long stretches of plains characterise Serengeti and the incredible game view is equally enduring.

During the green season, the vast dry expanse of grass is transformed into an endless green carpet covered with wildflowers. And there are also wooded hills and towering termite mounds, rivers lined with fig trees and acacia woodland stained orange by dust. The view in itself is a nature’s showpiece.

Through this piece of writing we have tried dividing the various seasons that occur in Serengeti National Park so that you may get certain help in planning your Serengeti Safari.

January to April

  • The calving season falls between these months, spread from late January through the middle of March to be precise.

  • Best time to capture predators aswell. There will be plenty of wildlife taking birth attracting the mighty predators.
  • This time is the best to capture extra ordinary photographs of special moments like a new calve being born and needless to mention the beautiful lush green surrounding.
  • The time is perfect for the travellers looking for solitude amidst the nature as there is lesser crowd and flights relatively cheaper.
  • As the dry season approaches, you may spot herds making move in search of greener pastures

May and June

  • This is the time when the wildebeest having given birth and fed on the short green grasses of south-eastern Serengeti migrate towards the western corridor in search of greener pasture.
  • With them move the zebras and the gazelles.
  • The move begins anytime between late April and early June.
  • It is best referred to be the survival of the strongest and the bravest. As the move is not a cake walk. The herd crosses the Grumeti River which is home to oversized crocodile ready to take on them and not to overlook the vast lion population across the Serengeti plains.
  • Well, this may also be the time to visualize the iconic great wildebeest migration – the world’s greatest phenomenon.
  • The weather becomes dry. Best time to see bulls locking horns across the plains to compete for territory and mating prospects.
  • Lesser crowd and secluded wildlife gives a chance for relatively intimate experiences.

  • Water sources are shared by predators and prey alike increasing chances of seeing chases. Visitors often get wonderful captures during this time.
  • Increased chances of viewing the greatest mammal movement as the herd of wildebeests make their movement northwards in search of food. They cross the Grumeti River in Serengeti around June or July and between July and October they cross the Mara river in Kenya.
  • These months are the most preferred time to visit Serengeti and explore its vastness.
  • Being the crowded months also give rise to competition among the travellers for being at the best spot for the best view.
